In “Ban Po Klang” Child Development Centre, there were two long wooden tables covered with pink tablecloths and around 19 boys and girls were sitting on the benches facing each other eating a good smell tasty clear soup (mixed with carrot, gourd and minced pork) and rice served in aluminium compartment trays. This was a breakfast for preschool children in a faraway village in deep mountain.
A girl named “Chompoo” and her friends had to ask for more food when they could not stop enjoying a delicious breakfast.
“Kru Jan”, Kru means teacher in Thai, or “Mae Mu” called by children means mother, told a good story happened from “Breakfast for Kids Project” sponsored by World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT) that the project trained teachers and parents the knowledge of nutrition fact in order to gain healthy development to preschool children. The nutritious breakfast supported by WVFT helps decreasing the food expense of impoverished family and essentially, nourishing brain and body of children to be ready to everyday learning.
“Previously, children came to the centre with some sweets and had no breakfast at home. Their parents hurriedly to work in the field in early morning, and having many children also cause them are unaffordable to provide enough food to kids. Nowadays, children have better enough nutritious breakfast at the centre. We have followed the growth of “Chompoo” and other two underweight children and found that they have increasing weight and height in a good development.” Kru Jan said about the change of her children. “I’m glad to see children have better nutrition assessment and enjoy coming to school in early morning. A girl named “Chompoo” is happier and she is lively in focusing on class activities and studying.”
World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT) has placed importance on nutrition assessment of preschool children and organized “Breakfast for Kids Project” to encourage every sector in community to support well-nourished health to little kids. Last year the “Breakfast for Kids Project” has performed a training of preparing harmless and nutritious food to children.
“The project is good and has helped impoverished children to have clean drinking water and nutritious food. It also has reduced the burden of hard working parents who have to go to the field in early morning. Having a good breakfast helps children have better development in learning through play. The parents also realize the benefit of “Breakfast for Kids Project” that helps their kids gain weight and healthier. I’m a representative of the parents to be grateful to you for a kindhearted support that has given happiness to children.” Kru Jan said smilingly.
