One of the great phenomenon happened in Ranong, the southern province of Thailand receiving monsoons both from the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea annually, in the early morning of lately March 11. Approximately 500 walkers, runners and bikers in Ranong and nearby provinces participated exercising and contributing in the charitable campaign of “Walking Running Cycling for Healthy and Stop Tuberculosis” organized by Ranong Provincial Public Health Office and World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT) to raise the fund helping tuberculosis patients.
Mr. Pornchai Suchartsoonthorn, Medical Physician, Ranong Provincial Public Health Office, said about the purpose of this activity that every year Ranong Provincial Public Health Office will organize the cycling activity to encourage people caring of staying fit but it was special this year to have walking, running and cycling all together for the charity.
As a good timing at 6 o’clock in the morning, after Mr. Pornthep Pongsri, Vice Governor, Ranong Province, graciously presided over the event, all walkers, runners and bikers left the starting point while the sun had not yet risen.
The route of walking and running prepared for 5 kilometers started from Ranong Hospital, headed to Ranong Police Station, passed the market of Ranong Town Municipality and headed back towards the finishing point at Ranong Hospital. With the fresh air in early morning, all runners freshened up and the first person crossed the finishing line less than one hour.
For the bikers, they cycled 20 kilometers started from Ranong Hospital and finished at Ngao Mangrove Forest and at the mangrove forest, the bikers also joined the tree planting.
Aun, a grade 11 student, participated in the activity with parent. Aun’s father told, “ We 3 persons have cycled with the hospital every year, but this year, Aun would like to run with friends. For me and my wife, we still prefer cycling.”
For this walking-running activity, all walkers and runners received the medals and certificates as souvenir and the campaign of stopping tuberculosis also organized in Bangkok and Phuket at the same time and day.
