\u201cIn the past, the water has flooded the road before and then gone down, but I\u2019ve never seen it like this.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>

Mrs. Laddawan Teedawong, a resident of Nan Province, r<\/strong>ecalled the devastating flash flood that inundated the community, causing unprecedented damage to homes and possessions in the village, on a scale not seen in hundreds of years.<\/p>

According to stories passed down from the community\u2019s elders, a flood this severe occurred several decades ago, prompting some families at the time to move to higher ground for safety. But for the current generation, many never imagined they would experience something like this again.<\/p>

On the night of the incident, around 3:00 AM, Laddawan woke up to find a small amount of water had entered the area around her house. Thinking it was simply overflow from the drainage system, she quickly moved her motorcycle to higher ground to prevent damage.<\/p>

However, when she returned home a short time later, the situation had changed dramatically.<\/p>

\u201cWhen I got back, the water was up to my waist. I had to climb the fence to get home.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

After that, she and her children could only rush upstairs to shelter on the second floor as the floodwaters continued to rise and flow swiftly.<\/p>

Amid the crisis, the only thing that kept her calm was her children\u2019s reminder.<\/p>

\u201cMy child told me to calm down and think things through. We need to stay rational in a situation like this \u2013 jumping in isn\u2019t an option, because the current could sweep us away and put us in danger.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Despite trying to stay strong, fear constantly overshadowed them while they were trapped inside the house.<\/p>

\u201cWhen we were upstairs, my children and I were terrified that the house would collapse.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

The sound of large logs crashing against the house as they were carried by the floodwaters was deafening, frightening everyone inside. The impact shattered windows, and the current swept away household items.<\/p>

\u201cThe cabinets, the sofa\u2014everything was swept out of the house by the flood. My child also said our windows were broken.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

After several hours of anxious waiting, the water level began to fall. Then, soldiers, police, and relevant agencies arrived to help, using vehicles to evacuate people from the affected area to safety.<\/p>

Although they made it through the immediate danger, a major challenge now lies ahead: rebuilding their lives and heavily damaged homes.<\/p>

When looking at her home covered in mud and debris, Mrs. Laddawan admitted she did not know where to begin.<\/p>

\u201cNow, we can only wait for people to come and help us bit by bit, as the damage is massive and beyond our capacity to handle on our own.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

With only her and her two children in the family, removing the large amount of mud from the house is beyond what they can manage on their own.<\/p>

Even though she understands that local authorities and municipalities are doing everything they can to help, the extent of the damage to the community means recovery will require support from multiple sectors working together.<\/p>

Currently, what she and the villagers need most urgently is help removing the large amount of mud that has accumulated inside their homes, so they can begin cleaning and repairing them.<\/p>

\u201cWe tried to shovel the mud and sand out of the house, but we didn\u2019t know where to put it. Now, we\u2019ve piled it all along the riverbank, and there\u2019s no more room.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Many families are still unable to return to their homes, and a large number of motorcycles and possessions remain buried in mud, while essential services in many areas have not yet been restored.<\/p>

\u201cWe all want our homes back to the way they were, with water and electricity like before.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Today, Mrs. Laddawan stays with relatives at night and returns during the day to deal with the damage to her home, scooping water from the stream that runs past her home for her immediate needs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Despite facing loss and uncertainty, she remains hopeful that one day she will be able to restore this home so that it can once again provide shelter for her family.<\/p>

\u201cI want to renovate my home so we can move back in.\u201d<\/em><\/p>
