Children are wanting "The cafeteria is clean. Get the standard and Is it safe?”

Muang Nong Hi School is currently facing issues with the severely deteriorated cafeteria of a 48-year-old school. The building’s structural state fails to comply with the health and safety requirements for a cafeteria.

Muang Nong Hi School this is a primary school located in Nong Hi District, within the Roi Et province. It serves children from kindergarten to primary 6, totaling 129 students.

In addition to its function as a canteen, the multi-purpose structure also acts as a social hall for events. The current state of the facility is severely deteriorated and poses a significant risk to both students and staff.

All the building structure and beams of the canteen are constructed from wood, it has been extensively devastated by termite incursion.
Birds gathered to build the structure on the ceiling. Bird waste, like feathers and dried leaves, can contaminate meals and pose a health risk to students.
Some wooden foundations are badly damaged, even some support structures are missing. This is because they are old and other natural causes.
Parts of the back roof and rain collecting system are damaged, resulting in leaks during rainfall.
The canteen floods during the rainy season since the cafeteria is lower in elevation than the surrounding area.
The school is concerned about not receiving a sanitary permit due to poor sanitation in the canteen related to its present alarming condition and inadequate wastewater treatment.
Because of these risk and the school’s rising population, most of the students now have lunch under the school trees.

The school’s financial resources are insufficient to construct a new cafeteria building due to its medium size, which results in a lesser priority for funding from the government and other private companies.

World Vision Thailand has been working in the Nong Hi District for nine years. Since that time, we have assisted the school in an array of activities. Since that time, we have been aware of this problem for a considerable amount of time. Recent years have shown that the problem is already at a high risk. As a result, the organization is extremely concerned and feels a sense of responsibility in assisting the school and the community in the construction of this new structure. Particularly, the organization is working to ensure that all students have access to a secure and standardized educational setting.
