Disaster

is a key contributor to impartiality and challenges vulnerable children and families face.

When a disaster strikes, vulnerable children and communities are most affected. It could take them a long time to recover from the loss and damage caused by the disasterous event to their assets, farm land, livelihoods, education opportunities and infrastructure.

Climate Change: the more change, the greater impact

Another factor that multiplies the severity of natural disasters nowadays is climate change. Its implication is not simply the hotter summer or shorter period of winter but also the uncertain farm yields and emerging diseases that result in the lower income and less security of the lives of vulnerable children and families.

Thailand ranks 9th when it comes to climate vulnerability and risks. (Greenpeace, 2023)

Inevitable but mitigable

One of World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s ministries is to mitigate disaster impact through equipping children and communities with disaster risk reduction and management, as well as post-disaster damage control, because their preparedness means less loss and damage.
