After visiting the area to launch the project and do activities with children in early May 2018, recently, Asia Pacific Petrochemical Co.,Ltd. (APC)has collaborated withWorld Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT)to hand over the water tower and reverse osmosis water filtration system, under “Water Supply System and Drinking Water Improvement Project”to Bannongbuathong School, Kaeng Hang Maeo district, Chantaburi province, which is situated within WVFT’s Kaeng Hang Maeo Area Development Programme. The objective is to improve water supply system to reserve water for use and support water filtration system to provide water for consumption to students and teachers in Bannongbuathong School.
The handing over ceremony was honoured byMrKamolAuthakorn,APC’s Operation & Logistics General Manager, along with more than 30 volunteers from APC participating in the event.MrEakkachaiSuwonkosai, WVFT’s Cluster Manager (Central Region), and Bannongbuathong School teachers and students have given them a warm welcome.
“What have happened today is considered in accordance with APC’s objective; that is to hand over quality water supply system and drinking water to children. However, this is not the only thing we’ve accomplished; we’ve not only given them fish, but also provided fishing rods and taught them how to fish. We’ve taught them how to stand on their own two feet. Now they have access to water; but to use the water, some expenses apply. They need to know how to generate income to pay for the water supplying process,” MrKamonreveals about what APC has supported, including how the school can achieve sustainable water management.
“In the past the school faced the problem of water shortage for use and consumption because we needed to share the water supply with the whole village, which normally requires a large volume of water and even a lot more during drought season. This is why there was insufficient water to use at school.Today, Bannongbuathong School teachers and students are greatly thankful to APC and WVFT for providing the water tower, water filtration system, and water cooler machine to our school, so that children have clean water to drink to promote good health,”MsNichananPookamdaeng,a teacher at Bannongbuathong School revealed her feeling and expressed her gratitude.
On that day, aside for the handing over of the water tower and water filtration system, the management and volunteers from APChave also done various activities with Bannongbuathong School students, such as collecting chicken eggs and vegetable to cook lunch, making compost from used mushroom substrates, buildingnew shelves for mushroom growingand lining up mushroomsubstrates on the shelves, as well as cleaning and organising books in the school library.
The “Water Supply System and Drinking Water Improvement Project”, which has been handed over from APCto Bannongbuathong School, has benefited 40 children in a child development centre and more than 107 students, as well as 8 teachers, to have sufficient clean drinking water and water for use in the school’s Agriculture for Lunch Project. Meanwhile, over 220local villagers have had access to sufficient water, thanks to this support.
