Ban Posor Village, Mae Sariang district, Mae Hong Son province is one of many areas severely hit by Podul – the tropical depression that brought a downpour and a flash flood over the village in September. The houses and government offices were left devastated by the terrible inundation and mudflow, so was Ban Posor School.
At Ban Posor School, no teacher or student was injured; but the school’s facilities were partly damaged due to the mudflow that flushed along with the flash flood. However, what greatly impacted the 364 students at Ban Posor School was the loss of the school’s food supply, including rice and dried food, as well as the damage to the farming plot and livestock, ie laying chickens, pigs, and the mushroom culture house; the food resource of all students was wipe out by the flood.
World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT)’s Mae Sariang Project, Mae Hong Son province urgently responds to Storm Podul disaster and promptly delivers help to Ban Posor School, Mae Sariang district, Mae Hong Son province right after the school’s access route that was struck by mudslides in over 30 spots has been restored and the Posor Bridge over the Ngae River has been repaired, allowing the normal traffic to resume.
The emergency assistance delivered to Ban Posor School includes medicine, toothbrushes and toothpaste, sanitary pads, dried food supplies, and cleaning equipment to support the school’s clean-up and rehabilitation. The farming plot of Ban Posor School has been reestablished shortly after.
Recently, teachers and students at Ban Posor School have jointly cleaned the school’s facilities so that classes may carry on. ‘Ban Posor School’s executive and teachers would like to thank sponsors and WVFT for the prompt emergency response during this disaster because the school did not have a budget to buy necessary items. The supplies and assistance from WVFT have helped us a lot. We feel so encouraged and truly appreciate this’, Ms Suwipha Duangjai thanked on behalf of Ban Posor School teachers.
Jaruwan, a 12 grader, expressed her feeling after receiving the support: ‘We were much in need of these items. They have tremendously benefited us. Thank you for helping me and my schoolmates and for the constant support for the school to carry out different activities’, said Jaruwan.
