WVFT’s National Director granted an audience with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for student literacy development collaborative effort (Read in Thai)

On 14 February 2019, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Chiang Rai-Phayao Border Patrol Police Vocational School in Ban Kio Kan, Rim Khong sub-district, Chiang Khong district, Chiang Rai province to follow up the progress of the Royal Project to improve quality of life of children and youth in Chiang Rai’s remote areas.

In this occasion, World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT), represented by Dr Sarawut Rachasrimuang, National Director, and the management team, has been granted an audience with HRH as a partner development and charitable organisation which has promoted and improved education in collaboration with Chiang Rai-Phayao Border Patrol Police Vocational School, as well as other schools in Song Phi Nong Area Development Programme (ADP), Chiang Rai province.

WVFT prioritises students’ learning development, especially for children’s from vulnerable families, through the implementation of Child Sponsorship Programme. The work includes the support of instructional materials production to boost literacy, tutorial sessions for students, and the “mobile library”, which supplies reading materials to each classroom through circulation of different types of books, in order to urge children to develop the reading lover habit. WVFT’s active roles in students’ literacy promotion and development have partly contributed to children’s improved reading and writing abilities and age-appropriate life skills enhancement. Further, thanks to the Child Sponsorship Programme implemented in Song Phi Nong ADP, in the previous academic year all students, especially sponsored children in the programme, have pursued secondary education.

Aside from the literacy development promotion, WVFT has also enhanced students’ life skills and supported farming and husbandry occupations, such as laying chicken raising, to sell produce to the school’s lunch project, which provides lunch to all students.
