“WVFT has done so many nice things for the community, especially Breakfast for Kids Project, which benefits the community a lot. Community committee and all parents become more aware of the importance of breakfast. Most children in the community, who once didn’t have any opportunity to eat nutritious and age-appropriate breakfast, now are all well-fed with nutrient-filled breakfast for their complete development. I’m glad to be part of this and think that this project’s donors, as well as WVFT staff, must be proud to make a big difference to every single child’s life.” Miss Orachaphorn Thong-on, a caregiver teacher at Ban Mae Klong Khi Child Care Centre, said from her heart and experience from having collaborated in child development work with WVFT.
Education and Health & Nutrition are two prioritised areas of development of WVFT’s Umphang Area Development Programme. Mae Klong Khi Child Care Centre is situated in a remote border area, where the support of breakfast for young children is much needed. Due to family poverty, children were fed with what adults eat, which is chili paste with boiled vegetables, or any food made from whichever raw materials their family could find. It is no wonder why kids here looked smaller and shorter than others of the same age. Teacher Orachaphorn continued, “Since this project began in Ban Mae Klong Khi Child Care Centre, parents have hurriedly dropped their children off early to make sure their kids have breakfast here every morning. Children have been gradually fulfilling their once-depleted nutritious need, resulting in their complete development in all 4 aspects. It is clearly noticeable that children have grown bigger, heavier and taller to meet the standard. They have better focus and pay more attention to class.” Teacher Orachaphorn was smiling happily while sharing about the development work.
