Chiang Rai Province - Around 552 runners from the Kindness and Friendship Runners Club, students and families who love to keep strong and healthy attended ‘WVFT’s 5th Run with streams of compassion mini marathon.’
The charitable marathon held on Sunday, 4 February 2018 could raise 184,540.64 Baht to support the “Breakfast for Kids Project”. The fundraising marathon organized by World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT) in coordination with the Chiang Rai Kindness and Friendship Runners Club, Thai Health Promotion Foundation, Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited, Toyota Chiang Rai Co.,Ltd. and other organizations in Chiang Rai Province.
“Thank you for coming today. Besides you all enjoy walking and running with your beloved friends and family members, you also share your love to underweight impoverished children to have breakfast. The nutritious breakfast is the most important meal to the growth of children, and the good development of children means the good future of society also.” Mr. Nirand Limkitti, Regional Fundraising Manager, World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT), said about the purpose of the charitable marathon.
The fundraising marathon not only encouraged everyone in all ages and genders to stay fit and healthy, but also supported the “Breakfast for Kids Project” to provide nutritious breakfast to impoverished children in the Child Development Centers and schools in the WVFT’s Project area.
At 5 o’clock in the morning of the day that the event happened, lots of runners arrived Tung and Khom Park. Someone bought the ticket and changed his shirt to wear the marathon’s shirt.
“WVFT’s 5th Run with streams of compassion mini marathon” was divided into two categories: a 3-kilometre walk-run for health (Fun Run), and a 10-kilometre mini marathon. Many persons warmed up before a run by following the step of aerobic dance instructor. At 6 o’clock, all runners were ready at the starting point. Mr Narongsak Tuensakun, Chiang Rai’s Deputy Mayor, graciously presided over the event and presented the Cup to the winner.
After the sound of starting gun, all runners slowly left Tung and Khom Park headed to King Mengrai Monument, passed King Mengrai Memorial Bridge, the Old Provincial Hall and headed back towards the finishing point at Tung and Khom Park.
The runners took an hour and a half to finished 10 kilometre mini marathon by receiving helpful support from traffic police and medical team from Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital.
“I applied to join the mini marathon without hesitation when knowing that it is a fundraising to support breakfast to impoverished children. I will be very hungry if having no breakfast. We need breakfast for all day energy and the children also definitely need breakfast to nourish their growth and development.” said Miss Kattika Kaewmanee, a kindhearted runner from Bangkok working in a Publishing Company Marketing.
Another generous runner, Miss Wirantree Kamjai, a dental hygienist joining “Fun Run” said “ I’m very glad that this marathon is a charity to help children.”
