The Life Journey of ‘Thanapon’: From a Child Under Care to an Educator Who Passes On Dreams

An inspiring story of a former sponsored child who, having been given the gift of an education, has grown up to become a culinary educator—empowering the next generation toward a brighter future.

“The opportunity I received has transformed the life of a child facing economic hardship, enabling me to grow up, help others, and pass on career aspirations. Today, I have the chance to teach children and young people, equipping them with knowledge and creating pathways to future careers.”

These words are not drawn from a textbook or a fundraising campaign. They come from Thanaphon, known to many as Man, who now stands at the front of a classroom as a Culinary Arts Lecturer at Phang Nga Technical College. His story is a powerful example of how support from sponsors through World Vision Foundation of Thailand (WVFT) can genuinely transform a child’s life.

Growing up, Thanaphon came from a low-income family. His parents worked as laborers, earning barely enough to cover household expenses. As a result, pursuing an education was one of the greatest challenges he faced during his childhood.

Despite financial hardship, Man held firmly to his dreams and determination to continue his studies. From a young age, he developed a passion for cooking and hoped that one day he could use his culinary skills to build a career and help others.

A turning point came when Thanaphon became a sponsored child through the World Vision Foundation of Thailand. The support he received may have seemed simple to many people, including school supplies, a school bag, shoes, and socks. However, for a child from a family with limited income, these essentials made a significant difference.

Having the necessary educational materials allowed him to attend school with greater confidence and preparedness. At the same time, his family was able to reduce education-related expenses and use their limited resources to meet other essential needs.

Later, when he entered university, Thanaphon continued to receive support through the Send a Child to Complete a Bachelor’s Degree Scholarship Program, particularly for educational materials and learning-related expenses. This assistance eased the financial burden on his family and enabled him to focus fully on his studies until he successfully graduated and achieved his academic goals.

Driven by his love for culinary arts, he first pursued a vocational certificate in Home Economics before continuing his education toward a bachelor’s degree in the same field. Through perseverance and continuous self-development, he steadily worked toward his dream career.

Today, the boy who once worried about school expenses has become a Culinary Arts Lecturer at Phang Nga Technical College. He now shares his knowledge and experience with children and young people, helping them develop practical cooking skills that can lead to sustainable careers and brighter futures.

For Thanaphon, success is not merely about having a stable profession. It is about the opportunity to give back and create opportunities for the next generation, just as others once did for him.

His story demonstrates that educational support does not always have to be large or complex. Sometimes, something as simple as school supplies, a school bag, or assistance with basic educational expenses can become the starting point of life-changing transformation.

Sponsors play a vital role in making that transformation possible. From a child growing up in a family struggling with poverty to a teacher helping shape the future of young people, Thanaphon’s journey is clear evidence that providing a child with an opportunity today can create lasting impact for years to come and pass on the value of learning from one generation to the next.
