In May 2024, World Vision Thailand and FedEx Express of FDX Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transport companies, carried out awareness-building activities on waste management in a local community in Thailand.
The said activities are part of the “FedEx Cares programme“ that brought together over 40 volunteers from FedEx Thailand and the community members to conserve the environment around Pa Deng Community, Phetchaburi Province, where 10 villages are located with a population of nearly 7,000 people. FedEx Thailand also donated three environment-friendly incinerators and three units of biogas generators to replace the traditional ways of waste disposal such as open burning and landfills. The incinerators will greatly contribute to pollution emission reduction while the biogas generators will provide a sustainable solution to organic waste management in the community. The FedEx volunteers also shared recommendations on waste sorting, reusing, recycling and upcycling with the community representatives who participated in the activities.
Sasathorn Phaspinyo, the managing director of FedEx Express Thailand, says, “FedEx continues its commitment to social responsibility, and connecting people for the greater good, while promoting community sustainability and local environment care. I am excited to see our staff volunteering and committing to this valuable initiative that helps contribute to community sustainable development and cleaner environments for the next generation.”
Rosalin Kowae, Programme & Support Services Director, World Vision Thailand, says, “Thanks to the collaboration of all sectors, we can strengthen the capacity of the community to overcome challenges and ensure a more sustainable future. We thank FedEx and Pa Deng Sub-district Administrative Organisation for joining us in this cause and for fostering community well-being.”
World Vision Thailand is committed to bringing a better quality of life to vulnerable children, their families and their communities. This includes addressing problems from climate change that adversely impacts children’s rights to survival, good health, education, development and protection. The ministry is in line with FedEx’s goal to promote the sustainable future of communities in Thailand and achieve the carbon neutrality goal globally by 2040; effective resource management, aimed at promoting reduced resources usage, renewable energy and the revolution of airborne and land freight, because it takes all sectors to build a sustainable future for children all over the world.
