Ending TB and HIV stigmatisation in Ranong

World Vision Thailand joins forces with the government to address challenges in ending TB and AIDS in key populations in Ranong

World Vision Thailand, representing the civil society organisations that are primary recipients of the Global Fund, joins hands with Ranong Provincial Public Health Office to conduct a meeting for collaborative efforts in the implementation of the Stop TB and AIDS through RRTTPR year 2024-2026 at Emerald Meeting Room, Ranong Provincial Public Health Office.

During the meeting, Dr Nyan Win Phyo, Migrant Populations Project Manager, and Dr Sarut Moonsarn, Human Rights, Gender Community Service Strengthening Programme Manager, represented World Vision Thailand to present the project under World Vision Thailand’s implementation to the executives, leaders and personnel of Ranong Provincial Public Health Office. The project integrates efforts to end tuberculosis and AIDS among migrant populations, while simultaneously promoting human rights, gender equality, and strengthening community systems.

Dr Nyan Win Phyo, Migrant Populations Project Manager, World Vision Thailand, said in the meeting: “The Stop TB and AIDS project continues to focus on implementing RRTTPR services for key populations, including migrants, men who have sex with men, transgender, sex workers, and their partners. The main challenge in this phase of the project is reaching and engaging the LGBTQ community to access TB and HIV services. Additionally, there are discussions on access to PrEP, PEP, and latent TB infection treatment for migrants, as well as provincial-level collaboration to end TB and AIDS among key populations, with Ranong Province being a priority area.”

Dr Sarut Moonsarn, Human Rights, Gender Community Service Strengthening Programme Manager, elaborated on the project implementation,

“The Stop TB and AIDS through RRTTPR year 2024-2026 under World Vision Thailand’s implementation consists of three projects: Human Rights and Gender, Community Service Strengthening, and TB and HIV among migrants. The interventions aim to address barriers and obstacles related to gender, stigmatisation, and discrimination in accessing TB and HIV services. This project also aims to increase access to the justice system, eliminate inequities in accessing healthcare services, and advocate for the reform of laws that hinder access to healthcare for key populations. Additionally, the project will strengthen community-based systems with a focus on people-centred initiatives and civil society-led services, in coordination with local government.”

Mr Sukhon Khumpetch, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Ranong Provincial Public Health Office, endorsed and expressed the readiness to support the Stop TB and AIDS project in Ranong.

“Regarding the collaboration discussed by World Vision Thailand, Ranong Provincial Public Health Office is pleased to provide guidance and coordinate implementation activities within Ranong Province. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to World Vision Thailand for being a valuable civil society partner in our collaborative efforts with the government to end tuberculosis and AIDS among key populations in Ranong Province. Your longstanding commitment has been instrumental in overcoming barriers and strengthening government programmes.”

Mr Sukhon Khumpetch further emphasised that the Ranong Provincial Public Health Office is glad to collaborate and integrate its plans with World Vision Thailand to provide friendly health services for key populations, strengthen and sustain community systems, and eliminate barriers related to human rights and gender in accessing healthcare services, in order to end TB and AIDS as planned.
