World Vision Foundation of Thailand Joins Hands with Community Leaders to Support Families Affected by Flash Floods

Providing sanitary kits and essential supplies in Mae Hong Son

On 24 August 2025, Tropical Storm Kajiki brought continuous heavy rainfall to several areas in Mae Hong Son Province. By 26 August, flash floods had caused widespread damage, particularly in Mueang District, severely impacting the livelihoods of people across multiple communities.

“At around 4 am, the water began rushing into the village rapidly. It rose to waist level. Our mattresses, electrical appliances, important documents, and many other belongings were all damaged. Although there were no fatalities, many villagers’ farmland was destroyed. In some areas, the soil was eroded so badly that farming is no longer possible,” said San Kitthathong, former Ban Thung Makok Village Head.

Sirima Wungpa, Programme Manager, Mae Hong Son, World Vision Foundation of Thailand, stated: “Through coordination among community leaders, World Vision Foundation of Thailand volunteers, and child development project staff, we found that our programmes in Pha Bong and Huai Pong sub-districts were severely affected—especially children, families, and local schools.”

In response to the disaster, World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s Mae Hong Son Project prepared 748 sanitary kits and essential supplies, which included towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and dried food, to be distributed to affected families.

On 16–17 September 2025, Mrs Rosalin Kowae, National Director of World Vision Foundation of Thailand, and Sirima Wungpa, Programme Manager, along with staff, volunteers, and community leaders, visited the affected areas to deliver the relief items and offer encouragement to children, families, and communities—helping them recover and regain stability.

“This support, although initial, is essential and uplifting for villagers affected by the recent disaster. As the community leader, I would like to thank all the supporters who recognised our hardship and extended their kindness to help us. Thank you so much,” said Ramchan Chaiyasit, Ban Mai Hung Village Head.

World Vision Foundation of Thailand thanks all sectors involved in supporting the disaster response. We remain committed to ongoing community recovery efforts—ensuring that every family can return to a stable and safe life.
