“The second home” that brings educational opportunities

No more difficult commutes, thanks to the dormitory construction project for students living in remote areas in Tak

“If it were not for this dormitory, we would not have the opportunity to study,” said Jaruporn, a first-grade student and representative of the students staying at the school dormitory in Mae Ramat District, Tak Province, reflecting her feelings when the World Vision Thailand staff in Tak Province visited to check the progress of the dormitory construction project for students living in remote areas.

For many students whose families live in remote areas, the difficult commute to school forces them to stay overnight at the school dormitory. Although it is not as warm as their own homes, it is the only opportunity that allows them to pursue their studies. However, with the increasing number of students, the existing dormitory provided by the school is no longer sufficient, affecting the quality of life and well-being of the children.

Nattawadee, a second-grade student, shared the hardships she and her friends face: “My friends and I have to live in an old, dilapidated, and cramped dormitory, which affects our rest. Some of us have had to drop out of school. This impacts our learning and prevents us from fully studying.”

Therefore, in March 2025, World Vision Thailand, with support from Mr Benjamin Au Kok Wai and Mrs Joanne Crewes Allouche, implemented the dormitory construction project for students living in remote areas. This project aims to provide safe, comfortable, and developmentally appropriate accommodation for 32 out of over 130 dormitory students.

Kewalin, a ninth-grade student, said with a happy smile, “We are very happy and excited. We thank everyone who supports us with this building. From now on, my friends and I will stay in a new, clean, safe, and spacious dormitory, no longer crowded as before.”

This project not only provides suitable accommodation for the students but also represents a significant step towards enhancing their access to education. It offers them the opportunity to fully engage in learning and ensures a better quality of life for their future.
