World Vision Foundation of Thailand Strengthens Disaster Preparedness and Response to Incidents of Violence in Sa Kaeo Province

Implementing the ‘Youth Preparedness and Life Skills Development Project’

World Vision Foundation of Thailand, through Sa Kaeo Project, in collaboration with a partner school, organised activities under the “Youth Preparedness and Life Skills Development Project” for students and educational personnel. Speakers from the 12th Ranger Regiment, Sa Kaeo Provincial Police, and local disaster response units were invited to share their knowledge and experience with participants.

World Vision Foundation of Thailand plans to implement the project across 35 schools within the project area, aiming to strengthen the preparedness of children and young people living in border communities who face risks from disasters and recurring violent incidents.

This training not only provided safety knowledge but also aimed to create safe spaces where children and young people could develop essential survival skills, understand evacuation routes and safe zones, and learn how to look after themselves in emergencies.

Nannapat Sanuanram, Programme Manager for Sa Kaeo Province, said:

“World Vision Foundation of Thailand aims to build a protective shield around children in the border area, enabling them and their families to face crises with confidence and resilience.”

During the training, children learned about various disaster-preparedness principles as well as the appropriate responses in the event of violent incidents along the border—risks that communities in Sa Kaeo Province experience periodically. Students also took part in simulation-based practical exercises to strengthen their survival skills, coordination, and decision-making in emergencies.

This initiative is part of World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s disaster risk reduction ministry, which seeks to strengthen the capacity of communities and schools to respond effectively to emergencies. The support provided ranges from initial emergency relief to long-term collaboration with local networks, such as community and school disaster-management committees, to jointly plan and minimise risks to the lives and property of children, families, and communities before unexpected events strike.

Ultimately, World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s work is not only about imparting knowledge but also about empowering communities and young people to grow up in safe environments, equipped with the skills, preparedness, and confidence to face potential challenges the future may bring.
