The Life Journey of ‘Suthinee’ and the Opportunity That Changed Her Life

From a Little Girl to a Community Health Worker

In a small community in Phrae Province, there is a young woman who dedicates herself to caring for the health of community members with all her heart. ‘Suthinee Kanjina,’ a public health officer at the Sub-district Health-promoting Hospital, is well-known and trusted by the villagers. Every day, she takes care of patients, advises pregnant women, looks after young children, and provides guidance to elderly individuals with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, or muscle pain from the hard labour of farming.

“Just seeing patients smile and get better makes me feel fulfilled,” Suthinee says with a joyful smile.

Behind that smile lies a story of perseverance, dreams, and a life-changing opportunity.

Suthinee grew up in a farming family. Her parents earned income once a year from growing corn. Her childhood was not easy, and her education was full of obstacles. When she turned 8, World Vision Thailand stepped in to support her with an education fund, school supplies, transportation costs, academic and life skills development activities, and even livelihood support for her family. Later, she received another education fund to complete her bachelor’s degree at the University of Phayao.

“If it were not for World Vision Thailand, I do not know if I would have been able to continue my studies. My parents would have struggled, and I might not have a stable job like I do today.”

Although she dreamed of becoming a teacher as a child, studying public health helped Suthinee discover the deeper meaning of caring for people in her community. It is not just about health—it is about being there during illness, offering advice, and providing encouragement during difficult times.

“When patients come to see me and leave with a smile, feeling better, that alone brings me happiness.”

Even though she has never met her sponsor in person, Suthinee still remembers a letter she once received. A short message like “Study hard, be a good girl, take care of your health.” becomes a powerful motivation that drives her determination and gratitude.

Today, Suthinee is not only a dedicated public health officer but also a volunteer for World Vision Thailand. She helps identify underprivileged children, shares information to assist them, and serves as an inspiration to youth in the area.

“I want other children to have the same opportunities I had. I want them to study, grow up, and come back to care for their hometown—just like I am doing today.”

Suthinee’s story reflects the power of opportunity that was given in the past and has blossomed beautifully today, for herself and for the community she loves.

“Thank you to my sponsor and World Vision Thailand for giving me that opportunity back then. It has made me someone who can now care for others.”
