On 23–24 July 2025, youth from various areas across Northern Thailand, including youth representatives from World Vision Thailand’s Chiang Mai Programme Area, joined ‘The Second Children & Youth Forum on Local Climate and Environmental Action in Northern Thailand’, organised by Department of Climate Change and Environment in collaboration with UNICEF Thailand.
The event aimed to create a space for children and youth to express their views, exchange knowledge, and collaboratively shape local environmental action in a participatory and sustainable way.
Forum activities included policy dialogues led by environmental experts, creative idea-sharing sessions by youth participants, and presentations of policy proposals reflecting the voices of local youth. This forum was not only a platform for learning but also a source of inspiration and hope, empowering young people to take part in addressing the escalating environmental challenges of today.
“I feel fortunate to have joined this event. I have gained so much knowledge, such as wastewater management, waste disposal, greenhouse gases, and natural disasters—topics that are crucial both now and in the future,” said Chonticha, or Dido, a youth representative from Chiang Mai
Kannika, or Kung, President of World Vision Thailand Youth Group in Omkoi added: “What I learned from this camp is incredibly valuable. These are things I had never known before, and I can apply the key takeaways at school.”
Both youth representatives also shared a message with society that most natural disasters are caused by human actions, and everyone should take serious responsibility in caring for nature and resources for a sustainable world for all.
Youth participation in this forum marks an important step in promoting their involvement in shaping national environmental policy and driving forward a more environmentally friendly society in the future.
