Because Fundamental Rights Mark the Beginning of Life Security

World Vision Foundation of Thailand joins hands with the government and local partners to continue driving the efforts to address legal status issues in Sangkhla Buri District, following the Cabinet Resolution dated 29 October 2024

Thanks to the collaboration of all sectors in Kanchanaburi Province, the expedited efforts to resolve legal status issues in the area have been effective. Kanchanaburi ranks fourth nationally in terms of the number of individuals targeted under the Cabinet Resolution of 29 October 2024, with a total of 59,080 cases. Of these, 15,716 are in Sangkhla Buri District, which has implemented a systematic approach and successfully resolved the legal status of over 13,000 individuals. This marks a significant milestone, reflecting not only quantitative success but also the strong commitment and collaboration of all involved parties.

On 30 August 2025, World Vision Foundation of Thailand participated in a visit to offer encouragement and monitor the implementation of addressing nationality and legal status issues in Sangkhla Buri District, Kanchanaburi Province. The event brought together government agencies, private sector representatives, and civil society organisations in a robust, integrated effort under the framework of the Cabinet Resolution dated 29 October 2024. This initiative aims to address the legal status of long-term migrants in the Kingdom of Thailand, as well as children born in Thailand who currently lack legal status, totalling 483,626 individuals. The event was presided over by Miss Teerarat Samrejvanich, Deputy Interior Minister, who also handed out identification cards and encouraged the target groups. This represents another key step in promoting fundamental rights and legal recognition for vulnerable populations.

This activity is part of the “Legal Status and Rights Development for Stateless Children and Youth Project,” which primarily aims to secure 13-digit ID numbers for students with the ‘G code’. This ID number is crucial for accessing basic rights such as education, healthcare, fair employment, and legal protection. The project is expected to benefit over 5,000 children and youth in targeted areas, reflecting World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s commitment to creating opportunities and equality for all vulnerable children and youth. The project not only facilitates access to basic rights but also contributes to the advancement of national policy implementation, in line with the government’s vision that “Thailand leaves no one behind.”

At the event, World Vision Foundation of Thailand hosted an activity booth under the theme “Building Identity for a Secure Future,” providing a space for participants to engage in creative activities that reflect cultural diversity and the importance of legal identity. A key highlight was the presentation by youth leaders from Sangkhla Buri District, who shared their personal experiences and challenges in resolving legal status issues with the Deputy Interior Minister during her visit to the exhibition booth. The active participation of youth in this initiative is a significant step that showcases their power and potential in creatively driving forward solutions to legal status challenges in their communities.

One of the special moments of the event was when Miss Teerarat Samrejvanich, Deputy Interior Minister, presented her signed photograph as the token of encouragement to staff and youth leaders who have been consistently working in the area. This gesture not only inspired the local teams but also underscored the importance of resolving legal status issues at the policy level, which requires systematic and sustainable collaboration across all sectors to ensure comprehensive and nationwide impact.

World Vision Foundation of Thailand sincerely thanks all partners for their invaluable support. We reaffirm our commitment to working with local partners to continue driving the efforts to address legal status issues equitably for all remaining target groups, so that everyone receives the rights and legal recognition they deserve. Our ultimate goal is to end statelessness in Thailand and drive the implementation of national policies that promote systematic solutions to legal status issues because legal status is a fundamental human right—one that marks the beginning of a secure, dignified, and safe life.
